Lecture at Glenalmond College

One highlight of last winter’s round of talks was an invitation to give a lecture at Glenalmond College in Perthshire to the William Bright Society. One of the school’s founders in 1847 was William Ewart Gladstone, whose father had been one of the largest slave owners in Guyana and at least one son of John Grant of Kilgraston was a pupil at the school.

It was a pleasure to give a presentation to a group of students at the school who were not only interested in the topic of one Scottish family’s involvement in slavery but were also willing to engage in a spirited discussion at the end.
